March to May is the best time for Balthali to Namobuddha trek due to the clear views until the afternoon. At the same time, wildflowers are in bloom with fantastic views of mountains. Another best trekking season for Balthali to Namobuddha Hike is October to December for clear views of peaks. Short sunlight days can be cold in the morning and night time. It depends upon the altitude and overnight stops.
Balthali is a beautiful village located about 40 km southeast of Kathmandu, in Kavrepalanchok District. It’s known for its peaceful countryside, traditional villages, and stunning views of the Himalayan foothills.
Namobuddha is approximately 6–8 km from Balthali, depending on the route taken. The trek usually takes 2 to 3 hours on foot.
Namobuddha is one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal. It is believed to be the place where Lord Buddha, in a previous life, offered his body to a starving tigress and her cubs. The site is home to the Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, a major Buddhist monastery.
The most popular way is to hike through scenic trails passing traditional villages, terraced fields, and pine forests. Alternatively, travelers can also take a jeep or local vehicle via Panauti if they prefer not to walk.
The hike is easy to moderate, suitable for beginners and families. The trail has some uphill and downhill sections but is generally well-marked and pleasant.
The best seasons are autumn (September–November) and spring (March–May). During these times, the weather is clear and the views of the Himalayas are stunning. Winter is also fine but can be cold in the mornings and evenings.
