Trip Overview

The Nepal Highlights Tour 12 Days brings together the country’s most recognizable landscapes, cultural landmarks, mountain scenery, and wildlife experiences in one well-paced journey. It is designed for travelers who want more than a quick Kathmandu visit but do not want to spend their entire holiday on a trekking trail. Across 12 days, the tour combines the historic Kathmandu Valley, the Himalayan setting of Pokhara, the subtropical wilderness of Chitwan, and the cultural character of the communities in between.

What makes this journey worthwhile is the contrast between these destinations. Kathmandu offers centuries-old temples, Buddhist stupas, royal squares, and living Newari heritage, while Pokhara opens up a completely different side of Nepal with Phewa Lake, hillside viewpoints, and dramatic Annapurna-region mountain scenery. Chitwan then takes the journey into the lowlands, where jungle landscapes, rivers, birdlife, and wildlife create an experience far removed from the Himalayan foothills. Depending on the season and conditions, visitors may encounter species such as the one-horned rhinoceros, crocodiles, wild deer, and a remarkable variety of birds.

The tour also leaves room for experiences beyond sightseeing. Sunrise and mountain viewpoints, traditional villages, local food, religious sites, cultural encounters, and short walks add depth to the journey without requiring the physical commitment of a multi-day trek. Most sightseeing is accessible to ordinary travelers, making the tour suitable for couples, families, first-time visitors, and anyone looking to experience several distinct sides of Nepal in a relatively short holiday.

With 12 days available, the journey strikes a practical balance between seeing Nepal’s major highlights and having enough time to appreciate each destination. Rather than trying to cover the entire country, it focuses on a carefully selected combination of heritage, mountains, nature, wildlife, and local culture, giving travelers a broad introduction to Nepal without making the trip feel like a race from one attraction to another.

Why Choose Nepal Highlights Tour?

Nepal is one of those countries where the scenery can change faster than you expect. A few days can take you from centuries-old courtyards and sacred stupas to Himalayan foothills, mountain lakes and subtropical jungle. That contrast is what makes the Nepal Highlights Tour 12 Days different from a holiday built around a single destination. Instead of spending the entire trip in one region, this journey gives you a taste of several Nepals at once; you will be able to experience its history, mountains, wildlife, religions, communities, and changing landscapes.

  • See Nepal Beyond the Mountains: The Himalayas may be the country's biggest draw, but they are only one part of the story. This journey brings together Kathmandu's historic cities, Pokhara's mountain-and-lake landscape, and Chitwan's wildlife-rich lowlands, showing how dramatically Nepal changes from north to south.

  • Start With Centuries of Living History: Kathmandu Valley is not simply a collection of old monuments. Temples remain active places of worship, courtyards still function as community spaces, and Buddhist and Hindu traditions continue to shape everyday life. Sites such as Boudhanath, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, and the historic Durbar Squares make the cultural side of Nepal tangible rather than something you only read about.

  • Put the Himalayas in the Background of Everyday Travel: You do not need to trek for a week to experience the scale of the Nepal Himalayas. Around Pokhara, the mountains become part of the landscape of ordinary travel, with Machhapuchhre and the Annapurna range rising behind the city, lake, and surrounding hills. At Sarangkot, around 1,600 meters, sunrise can turn that panorama into one of the memorable moments of the trip.

  • Let the Landscape Change the Experience: One day you may be surrounded by carved windows, prayer wheels and ancient brick architecture; elsewhere, the setting becomes open Himalayan foothills and blue mountain horizons. By the time you reach Chitwan, the atmosphere has changed again to forests, grasslands, rivers and warm lowland air. The variety is not a side effect of the itinerary, it is one of the main reasons to take the journey.

  • Add Wildlife to Your Nepal Experience: Chitwan brings an entirely different kind of adventure to a trip usually associated with mountains. The national park is home to the greater one-horned rhinoceros and more than 500 recorded bird species, alongside crocodiles, deer and other wildlife. Depending on conditions and park regulations, jungle activities can include safaris, canoeing, nature walks and birdwatching.

  • Meet Nepal Through Its Communities: Landscapes become more meaningful when you understand the people who live among them. The journey creates opportunities to encounter Newari heritage in the Kathmandu Valley, the mountain culture surrounding Pokhara and the distinctive traditions of Tharu communities in the Chitwan region.

  • Get Variety Without Turning the Holiday Into an Expedition: Not every traveler wants to spend their Nepal holiday carrying a trekking pack at high altitude. This tour keeps the adventure accessible, combining sightseeing, nature, cultural exploration, viewpoints, and wildlife without requiring the endurance or acclimatization needed for a major Himalayan trek.

  • A Good Introduction Before Coming Back for More: Twelve days cannot cover all of Nepal, and that is precisely why the journey works as an introduction. It gives you enough exposure to understand the country's different regions and experiences while leaving plenty of reasons to return for a dedicated trek, mountain adventure, cultural journey, or longer exploration.

  • Travel Through Nepal's Contrasts, Not Just Its Highlights: The real character of the trip comes from the transitions between places. Kathmandu introduces the country's dense cultural heritage; Pokhara opens toward the Himalayas; Chitwan moves into the biological richness of the Terai. Together, these destinations create a much more complete picture than any one of them could provide alone.

  • Twelve Days With a Genuine Sense of Discovery: The value of this journey is not measured by how many attractions can be crossed off a list. It is the accumulation of very different experiences, standing beneath ancient temples, watching the Himalayas change color at sunrise, drifting along a jungle river, walking through traditional communities and ending the day somewhere completely different from where it began.

  • Ideal for Travelers Who Want a Little Bit of Everything: If your idea of Nepal includes culture in the morning, mountains on the horizon, local food, outdoor experiences, wildlife, and time to simply absorb your surroundings, this format brings those interests together without making any single one of them dominate the entire holiday.

Day 07

Lumbini and Tilaurakot Sightseeing

You will spend this day exploring the historical and spiritual heritage of Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, before continuing to the archaeological site of Tilaurakot.

Your sightseeing in Lumbini begins around the Maya Devi Temple, the principal sacred site marking the traditional birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama. From here, you will explore the surrounding Sacred Garden, where peaceful pathways, ancient ruins, and Buddhist monuments create a calm atmosphere for walking and reflection. You will also see the Ashoka Pillar, erected by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE, and Puskarini, the sacred pond traditionally associated with the Buddha’s birth.

As you continue through the Lumbini development area, you will have the opportunity to visit several international monasteries and Buddhist temples, representing different Buddhist traditions and architectural styles from countries across Asia and beyond. The contrast between these monasteries gives you a broader understanding of how Lumbini has developed into an international pilgrimage destination.

Later, you will travel to Tilaurakot, an important archaeological site traditionally identified with ancient Kapilavastu, where Prince Siddhartha is believed to have spent his early years before leaving his royal life in search of enlightenment. As you walk through the remains of the ancient settlement, you can see the foundations, gateways, and archaeological structures that provide a glimpse into the historical setting associated with Siddhartha’s early life.

After completing your sightseeing, you will return to Lumbini in the evening and have time to relax at your hotel.

Day 09

Full-Day Chitwan Jungle Activities

Today, you will spend a full day exploring the forests, wetlands, and surrounding communities of Chitwan National Park, with a combination of wildlife, nature, and cultural experiences depending on the day's activity schedule.

A jeep safari takes you deeper into the park's forested areas, where you will have opportunities to look for wildlife in its natural habitat. Chitwan is particularly known for its greater one-horned rhinoceros, while the park and surrounding wetlands are also home to deer, wild boar, crocodiles and a wide variety of bird species. The Royal Bengal tiger also inhabits the park, although sightings are naturally unpredictable and never guaranteed.

You may also explore the waterways by canoe, where a quieter pace allows you to look for crocodiles, waterbirds and other wildlife along the riverbanks. A jungle or nature walk provides another perspective, letting you move through the forest on foot with an experienced naturalist or guide and learn about the plants, animal tracks and ecosystems around you.

Depending on the operational schedule, you may also visit the Elephant Breeding Centre, while a Tharu village and cultural experience offers an opportunity to learn more about one of the region's long-established indigenous communities. Later in the day, you can enjoy a sunset view before experiencing a traditional Tharu cultural dance performance in the evening.

With wildlife encounters, river experiences, forest exploration, and local culture combined in a single day, Chitwan gives you a completely different side of Nepal from the Himalayan landscapes and heritage sites experienced earlier in the tour.

Rooms are generally arranged on a twin-sharing basis, unless you have requested another arrangement. Standard facilities typically include a private room and bathroom, comfortable beds, hot water, Wi-Fi and other basic hotel services, although the exact facilities can vary between properties. In Chitwan, the resort may have a more nature-oriented setting, with open spaces and garden areas that fit the jungle environment.

Food During the Tour

Food on the Nepal Highlights Tour is arranged according to the meal plan for each destination. Breakfast is included throughout the tour, while your Chitwan stay also includes lunch and dinner as part of the jungle package. In Kathmandu, Pokhara and Lumbini, breakfast is generally served at your hotel, giving you a convenient start before heading out for sightseeing or your next day's journey. Depending on the hotel, breakfast may include a combination of local and international options such as eggs, toast, bread, cereals, fruit, potatoes, tea, coffee, and other common breakfast items.

While traveling through Nepal, you will also have plenty of opportunities to experience local cuisine independently during your free time. In Kathmandu and Pokhara, restaurants offer a wide range of Nepali, Newari, Indian, Tibetan and international dishes, while Lumbini also has restaurants and cafés serving both local and vegetarian-friendly meals.

Your Chitwan package provides a more complete meal arrangement, with breakfast, lunch and dinner included at the jungle resort. Meals here are convenient because your daily schedule includes jungle activities that can take you away from the resort for several hours. Some of the Nepali foods you may want to try during the tour include:

  • Dal Bhat: Rice served with lentil soup, vegetables, curry and pickle

  • Momo: Nepali-style steamed or fried dumplings filled with vegetables, chicken or other fillings

  • Thukpa: A warm noodle soup influenced by Himalayan and Tibetan cuisine

  • Newari Dishes: Traditional foods associated with the Kathmandu Valley

  • Sel Roti: A traditional ring-shaped rice bread commonly enjoyed during festivals

  • Vegetable and Meat Curries: Commonly served with rice, roti or other local breads

  • Tibetan-Style Bread and Snacks: Particularly common around tourist areas and Himalayan-influenced destinations

**Note: Specific hotel menus and available dishes can vary depending on the property, season, and local supplies. Travelers with particular dietary requirements should inform us in advance so that suitable meal arrangements can be discussed before the tour**

Transporation

Transportation throughout the Nepal Highlights Tour is arranged by private vehicle, providing a comfortable and flexible way to travel between Kathmandu, Pokhara, Lumbini and Chitwan, as well as for the major sightseeing days. Airport pickup and drop-off at Tribhuvan International Airport are also included.

After enjoying your time in Kathmandu, you will travel overland toward Pokhara, with a stop at the Trishuli River for rafting before continuing to the lakeside city. The journey from Pokhara to Lumbini takes you from Nepal’s middle hills toward the flatter Terai landscape, while the following drive from Lumbini to Chitwan National Park continues through the southern plains. After your Chitwan experience, you will travel by private vehicle back to Kathmandu.

Local sightseeing transfers, including the journeys to Sarangkot, Australian Camp, Bhaktapur and Nagarkot, are also arranged as part of the tour. The main intercity journeys are relatively long road trips, and actual travel time can vary with traffic, road conditions, weather and ongoing construction. Rather than focusing only on reaching the next destination, the overland journeys allow you to watch Nepal’s landscape change from Kathmandu’s urban valley to Himalayan foothills, middle hills and the subtropical Terai.

Difficulty and Fitness Requirement

The Nepal Highlights Tour is a moderate-paced cultural, sightseeing, adventure and wildlife tour, rather than a strenuous trekking itinerary. Most of the journey is completed by private vehicle, with sightseeing walks, approximately 1 hour of boating on Phewa Lake, Trishuli River rafting, and a short hike around Australian Camp providing the main physical activities. You should be comfortable walking for several hours during sightseeing days, particularly in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lumbini, where you will explore temples, courtyards, heritage sites, and archaeological areas on foot.

The Australian Camp section adds some uphill and downhill walking, but it does not require technical hiking or previous trekking experience.  Basic cardiovascular fitness and comfortable walking ability are generally sufficient for the tour. Regular walking, light hiking, or stair climbing before your trip can make the longer sightseeing days and Australian Camp hike more enjoyable. Trishuli rafting involves physical activity and getting in and out of the raft, but no previous rafting experience is normally required when following the safety instructions of the rafting crew.

The tour also reaches destinations with different elevations, from Kathmandu at around 1,400 meters to higher viewpoints such as Sarangkot and Australian Camp, before descending toward the Terai destinations of Lumbini and Chitwan. Since the itinerary does not involve prolonged trekking at extreme altitude, altitude is generally much less of a physical concern than on Nepal's high-altitude trekking routes. Overall, this Nepal Highlights tour package is suitable for travelers with reasonable general fitness and normal mobility, while the pace can be managed around the sightseeing and travel schedule.

Best Time to Trek Nepal Highlights Tour 12 Days

The Nepal Highlights Tour 12 Days can be enjoyed throughout the year, but spring (March to May) and autumn (late September to November) generally provide the most comfortable combination of sightseeing weather, clearer mountain views and manageable temperatures. This is especially useful for Sarangkot, Australian Camp, Nagarkot and Pokhara, where clear conditions make the Himalayan scenery much more rewarding. Nepal Tourism Board also identifies spring and autumn as the generally favorable seasons for travel, while noting that Nepal can be visited year-round.

Best Time to Visit Nepal

Spring: March to May

Spring is a comfortable period for combining cultural sightseeing, mountain viewpoints and outdoor activities. March and April generally offer pleasant conditions for walking around Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lumbini, while the hills around Pokhara become greener as the season progresses. By May, temperatures rise, and pre-monsoon showers become increasingly possible.

In Kathmandu, daytime temperatures during spring generally move from the high 10s °C in March toward the low-to-mid 20s °C by April and May. Pokhara is warmer, while Chitwan and Lumbini can already feel hot, particularly toward May. Nepal Tourism Board records summer-period averages of around 29.7°C maximum in Pokhara and 33°C in Chitwan, illustrating the warmer conditions encountered in the lower elevations.

Spring is particularly appealing if you want to combine Sarangkot sunrise, Australian Camp, boating in Phewa Lake, and Kathmandu Valley sightseeing without winter's colder mornings. Mountain visibility is generally best on clear mornings, although haze and pre-monsoon cloud can increase later in the season.

Best for: Comfortable sightseeing, spring greenery, mountain viewpoints and a good balance between temperatures and outdoor activities.

Autumn: Late September to November

Autumn is one of the most favorable periods for the Nepal Highlights Tour. The monsoon gradually withdraws, leaving cleaner air and generally clearer skies, which is particularly valuable for Sarangkot, Australian Camp, Nagarkot and the Himalayan views from Pokhara. October and November are generally drier and more stable than September.

Daytime conditions are generally comfortable across Kathmandu and Pokhara, while Chitwan remains pleasantly warm compared with the hills. Nepal Tourism Board identifies October to March as Chitwan's best season, with an average temperature of around 25°C, while July to September is the park's rainy period.

This season also works well for the cultural sections of the tour because places such as Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Bhaktapur, Lumbini, and Tilaurakot can be explored without the persistent rainfall associated with the monsoon.

Best for: Clear Himalayan views, comfortable sightseeing, Chitwan wildlife activities, photography and pleasant autumn weather.

Winter: December to February

Winter is also a practical time to undertake the tour, particularly if you prefer cooler conditions and want to avoid the monsoon. Kathmandu and Pokhara have mild daytime weather but noticeably cooler mornings and evenings, so warm layers are useful for early departures to Sarangkot and Nagarkot.

Nepal Tourism Board's winter averages show maximum temperatures of around 19.3°C in Kathmandu, 20.3°C in Pokhara and 24.1°C in Chitwan, while minimums average around 3°C, 7.7°C and 8.3°C respectively. This means the same trip can feel cool in Kathmandu and Pokhara while remaining comfortably warm in Chitwan.

Winter mornings can sometimes bring haze or clouds that affect Himalayan visibility, but clear days can still provide excellent mountain views. Chitwan is particularly comfortable during this season, making it a good period for jeep safaris, canoeing, nature walks, and Tharu cultural experiences.

Best for: Cooler sightseeing weather, comfortable Chitwan activities, quieter travel periods and crisp clear days when visibility is favorable.

Summer and Monsoon: June to August

June through August brings the summer and monsoon period, with significantly more rainfall across much of Nepal. Around 80% of Nepal's annual precipitation falls during the June to September monsoon, and Pokhara receives particularly high rainfall.

Kathmandu and Pokhara can remain warm and humid, while Lumbini and Chitwan become hot, with Chitwan's summer maximum averaging around 33°C in Nepal Tourism Board's climate data. Chitwan's official tourism information describes July to September as rainy, while April to June can become very hot.

Rain does not make the entire tour impossible, but it can affect mountain visibility, outdoor sightseeing, hiking around Australian Camp, Sarangkot sunrise, road journeys, and jungle activities. Roads can also become slower when rainfall affects conditions. The advantage is that Nepal is generally quieter, landscapes become lush and green, and the tour can still work well with some flexibility.

Best for: Travelers comfortable with rain and flexible schedules, lush landscapes, fewer crowds, and lower-season travel.

Packing Essentials

Packing for the Nepal Highlights Tour 12 Days is relatively simple because this is a sightseeing and adventure tour rather than a high-altitude trek. Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a practical part of preparing for the Nepal Highlights Tour, especially since the journey covers several destinations and includes long-distance road travel, Trishuli River rafting, boating, short hiking, wildlife activities, and multiple hotel stays. Even with a well-organized itinerary, unexpected illness, injury, lost belongings, or changes to transportation can add unplanned costs.

A suitable policy should ideally cover medical treatment and hospitalization, emergency assistance, trip cancellation or interruption, baggage loss or delay, and additional expenses caused by significant travel disruptions. Since rafting is included in the itinerary, check that your policy does not exclude the activities you plan to participate in.

It is also worth considering the different environments covered by the tour. You will travel from the Kathmandu Valley and middle hills to the warmer Terai destinations of Lumbini and Chitwan, with several intercity journeys in between. Comprehensive travel insurance gives you greater financial protection when plans are affected by circumstances outside your control.

Safety and Support

Safety and reliable support remain important throughout the Nepal Highlights Tour, particularly because the itinerary combines city sightseeing, long road journeys, rafting, hiking, wildlife activities, and travel across different regions of Nepal. The tour is organized with a private vehicle and experienced local support, allowing transportation, sightseeing, and day-to-day arrangements to be handled smoothly.

During Trishuli River rafting, you will receive a safety briefing and follow the instructions of the rafting crew. The Australian Camp hike and other walking activities are relatively short, but comfortable footwear and attention to uneven trails are recommended. In Chitwan, jungle activities should always be carried out with the assigned guide or naturalist and according to park safety guidelines.

Safety and Support During Nepal Travel

Your guide and driver can also assist with local navigation, hotel coordination, sightseeing arrangements, and unexpected changes caused by weather, road conditions, or other travel disruptions. Keeping your passport, valuables, medication, and important documents secure while traveling between destinations is also recommended.

Necessary Permits

The Nepal Highlights Tour does not require the special trekking permits associated with restricted Himalayan regions, as the itinerary mainly follows established tourist destinations, cultural sites, and national park areas. However, some places and activities involve their own entrance or admission requirements.

For Chitwan National Park, the required park entry fee and applicable activity arrangements are part of the tour planning, allowing you to enter the protected area and participate in activities such as jeep safari, canoeing, and guided nature walks. Similarly, sightseeing around Kathmandu Valley, Lumbini, and Bhaktapur involves entrance fees at designated heritage sites and monuments.

For the traveler, this keeps the process straightforward: you do not need to arrange a separate trekking permit before arriving in Nepal. Your tour arrangements can cover the applicable national park, heritage-site, and activity fees according to the package inclusions, while your guide or representative can assist with the necessary formalities during the journey.

The tour covers several of Nepal's major cultural, natural, and historical destinations. In Kathmandu, you visit Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swayambhunath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square, followed later by Bhaktapur and Nagarkot. The itinerary then takes you to Pokhara for Phewa Lake, Tal Barahi Temple, Davis Falls, Gupteshwor Cave, World Peace Pagoda, Sarangkot, and Australian Camp. From there, you travel to Lumbini and Tilaurakot, followed by Chitwan National Park for jungle and wildlife activities before returning to Kathmandu.

Is the Nepal Highlights Tour Suitable for First-time Visitors to Nepal?

The Nepal Highlights Tour itinerary is particularly suitable for first-time visitors because it combines several different sides of Nepal in one trip without requiring a demanding Himalayan trek. You experience UNESCO-listed cultural sites, Himalayan mountain views, lakes, rural landscapes, Buddhist heritage, wildlife, and local communities within 12 days. The tour also provides private transportation and organized sightseeing, making it easier to move between destinations. You get a broad introduction to Nepal while still having time for activities such as Trishuli River rafting, Phewa Lake boating, the Australian Camp hike, and Chitwan safari activities.

How Difficult is the Nepal Highlights Tour?

The Nepal Highlights Tour is moderate in activity level but not a strenuous trekking trip. Most of the itinerary is completed by private vehicle, while the physical activities include sightseeing walks, approximately one hour of boating on Phewa Lake, Trishuli River rafting, and a short hike to Australian Camp. You should be comfortable walking for several hours on some sightseeing days and handling uneven surfaces at heritage sites. The Australian Camp section includes some uphill and downhill walking, but no technical trekking or high-altitude experience is required.

What Kind of Transportation is Used During the Nepal Highlights Tour?

The tour uses private vehicles for airport transfers, intercity journeys, and local sightseeing, giving you greater flexibility and comfort than shared tourist transportation. The main overland routes connect Kathmandu, Pokhara, Lumbini, Chitwan, and Kathmandu again, with additional drives to places such as Sarangkot, Australian Camp, Bhaktapur, and Nagarkot. Transportation time varies according to traffic, road conditions, weather, and construction.

Is Travel Insurance Required for the Nepal Highlights Tour?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended for the tour, although it is not a substitute for normal travel precautions. The itinerary includes road journeys, rafting, hiking, wildlife activities, and multiple destinations, so unexpected medical expenses, trip interruptions, baggage problems, or transportation disruptions are possible. Your policy should ideally include medical treatment, emergency assistance, hospitalization, trip cancellation or interruption, baggage protection, and coverage for activities such as rafting.

Do I Need Any Special Permits for the Nepal Highlights Tour?

No special restricted-area trekking permits are required for this itinerary. The tour visits established tourist destinations such as Kathmandu, Pokhara, Lumbini, and Chitwan rather than restricted Himalayan trekking regions. However, entrance fees and applicable admission requirements apply at places such as heritage monuments and Chitwan National Park. These are different from special trekking permits, and the relevant fees can be handled according to the tour's inclusions.

Is Trishuli River Rafting Included in the Nepal Highlights Tour?

Trishuli River rafting is included on Day 3, while traveling from Kathmandu toward Pokhara. After reaching the river, you receive a safety briefing before participating in the rafting activity with the river crew. The experience adds a short adventure element to the overland journey, with flowing river sections, rapids, rocky riverbanks, and surrounding green hills. No previous rafting experience is normally required, but you should follow the rafting crew's safety instructions throughout the activity.

Can I See Wildlife During the Chitwan Portion of the Tour?

Chitwan National Park is one of the major wildlife highlights of the Nepal Highlights Tour itinerary. Depending on the season, location, and luck, a jeep safari may provide opportunities to see one-horned rhinoceros, spotted deer, wild boar, crocodiles, and numerous bird species. The Royal Bengal tiger also lives in the park, although sightings are never guaranteed. The program can also include canoeing, guided jungle or nature walks, birdwatching, Tharu village experiences, and sunset activities, giving you several ways to experience the park beyond a single safari.

Is the Nepal Highlights Tour Suitable for Families and Older Travelers?

Nepal Highlights Tour can work well for families and older travelers who are comfortable with normal sightseeing, walking, and road travel. Most transportation is by private vehicle, and there is no prolonged high-altitude trekking involved. The main considerations are the longer road journeys, walking around heritage sites, the short Australian Camp hike, and optional adventure activities such as rafting. Families or older travelers can discuss their preferred pace and activity level when arranging a private tour.

Can the Nepal Highlights Tour Be Customized?

As a private tour, the itinerary can generally be adjusted according to your available time, interests, preferred activities, accommodation level, and travel pace. For example, you can discuss adding additional sightseeing in Kathmandu or Pokhara, extending your stay, or arranging extra activities before or after the main itinerary. Customization should be discussed before booking so that transportation, accommodation, guides, entrance arrangements, and additional costs can be planned properly.

Can I Join the Nepal Highlights Tour as a Solo Traveler?

Yes. Solo travelers can book the Nepal Highlights Tour, with the itinerary arranged around private transportation and individual travel preferences. Traveling solo may cost more per person because vehicle, guide, accommodation, and other operational expenses are not divided among a group. The advantage is greater flexibility: you can maintain the planned 12-day itinerary while having your own space and support throughout the journey.

How Much Driving is Involved in the Nepal Highlights Tour?

The tour involves a considerable amount of overland travel because it connects Kathmandu, Pokhara, Lumbini, and Chitwan in one itinerary. The longest journeys are generally Kathmandu to Pokhara, Pokhara to Lumbini, Lumbini to Chitwan, and Chitwan to Kathmandu, with additional shorter drives for sightseeing. Actual driving times depend heavily on traffic, road conditions, weather, and construction. The benefit is that these journeys also allow you to experience Nepal's changing landscapes, from the Kathmandu Valley and middle hills to the Terai plains of Lumbini and Chitwan.

Are Airport Pickup and Drop-off Included in the Tour?

Airport pickup and drop-off at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu are included in the tour arrangement. On arrival, a representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your Kathmandu hotel by private vehicle. At the end of the tour, the same type of private transfer takes you from your hotel to the airport according to your international flight schedule. This keeps the arrival and departure arrangements straightforward without requiring you to arrange airport transportation independently.

Can I Add Extra Activities or Sightseeing to the Itinerary?

Additional activities and sightseeing can be arranged depending on time, availability, weather, and your interests. You may choose to spend more time exploring Kathmandu, Pokhara, or Chitwan, or add activities that are not part of the standard 12-day schedule. It is best to request additions before the tour begins so the necessary transportation, guide services, entrance fees, activity bookings, and extra accommodation nights can be arranged in advance.

A surprisingly rich birding escape right on Kathmandu's doorstep

I only had a single free day in Kathmandu before my flight home, and taking this birding excursion to Phulchwoki Hill was the best way to spend it. Driving up through the dense oak and rhododendron forests, the temperature dropped and the forest came alive with bird activity. Within a few hours of quiet walking, we logged Cutias, Kalij Pheasants, Laughingthrushes, and several colorful Sunbirds. Our guide knew every feeding spot along the trail and brought along high-end spotting scopes that made capturing crisp photographs effortlessl.

    Great Cultural Experience

I had planned to visit Nepal before COVID, but my trip was cancelled. Finally, I made it to Kathmandu in 2022. The city tour was a great choice for my first day. We saw many beautiful temples and old buildings, and our guide told us interesting stories about the places. Kathmandu was lively and colorful, and I enjoyed walking around the old areas. Thank you Eco Holidays Nepal for making our first day easy and enjoyable. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kathmandu.

My First Big Trip After COVID

This was my first major international trip after the COVID years, so I was excited and nervous at the same time. The Everest Base Camp trek was better than I expected. The team explained everything clearly and helped us with the daily walking and altitude. Some tea houses were still getting back to normal after the quiet COVID period, but I actually liked the peaceful feeling in the villages. The scenery was unbelievable. Everything was well arranged, and I would happily travel with Eco Holidays Nepal again.
